Museum Education Program: "Do You Remember?"
After the success of the exhibition "My Museum" (Mein Museum) organized by the kindergarten children and elementary school students from Erlauf for the Days of Peace (Friedenstage) in 2014, students of the new Lower Austrian ecological middle school in Pöchlarn have now been asked to participate in Do You Remember? (Erinnerst du dich an...?). This project is a prime example of the traditional culture of remembrance in the community of Erlauf, which has given itself the title "Community of Peace." It aims to create an educational program for the new museum that is based not only on its holdings, but also on students’ interests, abilities, and perspectives. Special focus will be put on how visitors identify with the historical events in Erlauf and how these are represented in the museum and public space. The students’ subjective approaches to history will thus be combined with Erlauf’s culture of remembrance and attitudes toward historical objects. Students will not only explore the peaceful community of Erlauf through the lens of a camera; they will also visit the museum during its construction and work with original documents and objects together with the curatorial team. This close involvement with the exhibition will help students to design a tour for school classes. The project will culminate at the museum’s opening, when students will offer guided tours of the exhibition.
Idea and Coordination: Theresia Moritz, in cooperation with the new Lower Austrian ecological middle school (Öko Mittelschule) in Pöchlarn.
